Test Discovery 42 OC in Skipper: “Premium quality”
He was the first journalist to step aboard the latest addition to the Discovery family and was immediately impressed with the design, the finishing and the practical layout of this open cockpit yacht.
During his visit to Noardburgum, Peter was given an extensive tour of the shipyard. What pleasantly struck him most was the fact that Super Lauwersmeer develops and builds all their yachts entirely on their own shipyard. “A professional production process where a team of experienced professionals work meticulously to the smallest details.”, he writes. Super Lauwersmeer’s ‘everything-under-one-roof’ philosophy clearly bears fruit in the final product, as well as in the process. Moreover, Marienfeld is very positive about the say that clients have in realizing their dream yacht.
Back to the Discovery 42 OC. When Peter steps on board he immediately notices the exceptional interior design. “Whereas many water sports clients would go for mahogany or cherry, these Luxemburg owners of the ‘Y not’ opted for Zebrano wood. The combination of the floor with the concrete look and the fresh details has resulted in a truly unique interior”. According to the journalist of Skipper, this might not be for everyone, but what’s wonderful about it is that it perfectly demonstrates that Super Lauwersmeer allows its clients to entirely decide for themselves how they want their yacht to look.
In addition to the practical layout and the fact that the saloon blends seamlessly into the cockpit, Marienfeld also applauds the yacht’s sailing performance. “When we started the turbo diesel engine, we were actually wondering whether it was running, it was that quiet.”, he writes. “But then you realise it really is...”, he continues his story. “Even at 1,600 rpm and a speed of 7.4 knots, only 58 dB(A) is still measurable. Unprecedented!”
