Seaworthiness of the Discovery AC confirmed during 'the great crossing'
The latter was true for the Roest family who embarked on their journey across the channel to England on board of their Discovery 45 AC' Kaikoura'.
Perfectly stable
The journey led them through the Strait of Calais, past the French chalk cliffs at Dieppe and Fecamp, and then on to Guernsey where they crossed over to the British mainland. The trip of a lifetime that the couple had in mind when they decided to have their Discovery 45 AC built. That is also why the yacht is equipped with stabilizers. You could sail out at sea without stabilizers, but to make sure you have a comfortable journey, you need stabilizers", says Peppino Roest. Thanks to the stabilizers, the ship stays perfectly stable and you can cross the IJsselmeer comfortably, even during higher wind forces", he continues.
A home away from home
For Peppino and Madeleine, the Kaikoura is truly their home away from home. In fact, even when they passed by their hometown during a seven-week trip, they decided to stay on board. The Kaikoura feels like home", Madeleine says. The ship has an incredible level of comfort. The underfloor heating, spacious wet cell and the various levels are marvellous. We live just like we do at home with all the modern conveniences! It’s great to have an ‘apartment’ like this out on the water – you have a different experience and new views each and every day!
Compliments
Their sea voyage has been a trip that they’ll never forget. Especially the heroic feeling of entering a foreign seaport on your own keel is fantastic. With a steel water slider – no less. They don't have that in France or England", they say. The Discovery behaved perfectly and is every bit as good as seaworthy yachts built specifically for this purpose. We also received many compliments on how it cuts through the waters.
