International press full of praise about Discovery 47 AC
The always critical (international) trade press has sailed on the brand new Super Lauwersmeer Discovery 47 AC. And the reactions are full of praise. “We have been convinced”, writes Belgian water sports magazine “Varen”. The German “Skipper” speaks of “Beauty made of steel”.
Journalist Alfred J. Boer boarded the Discovery 47 AC on behalf of the Belgian “Varen”. Boer is well familiar with Super Lauwersmeer. In the past, he also tested the Discovery 47 OC. “We immediately recognised the sublime finishing and sophisticated details of the other Discovery’s”, he writes. “The shipyard deserves a huge compliment for the finishing; whether it concerns carpentry, sealing or piping, everything has been carried out professionally and according to high standards.”
"Excellent course stability"
More in particular, Boer is impressed by the cruising characteristics. “The course stability is excellent and as there is a bow thruster as well as a stern thruster, manoeuvring is a piece of cake. The ship sails a very steady course and steering corrections are hardly necessary.” He continues his story full of praise on the noise level: “Sailing with 1,300 revs and a speed of 4.3 (GPS) knots, the Volvo diesel on the rear deck is not even louder than the sound of the choppy waters.” This is beamed by his German colleague: “the best sailing and manoeuvring properties” writes Peter Marienfeld, journalist from Skipper. “The elegant 47-footer reacts spontaneously and precisely to every steering command” he continues.
“A view as from a cruise ship”
The matter is quite straightforward for Alfred J. Boer: “The Discovery 47 AC is an excellent opportunity for a couple that likes going on long journeys, but who would also like to take guests or children on board now and then, without having to make too many compromises on their privacy.” He praises the kitchen where “everything has been accommodated for the preparation of a wonderful diner” and refers to the L-shaped couch in the salon as an “excellent lounging area with a view equal to that from an outside cabin on a cruise ship”. Peter Marienfeld also welcomes the interior and calls it a “First-class space of all residential areas on board”.
"A fine investment"
Alfred J. Boer gives decisive guidance and rounds off with the fact that the Discovery 47 AC is a fine investment: “Furthermore, the solid construction and timeless design guarantee an interesting residual value in the future. A fine investment.”
