Super Lauwersmeer makes dreams come true for a young family

With the Discovery 47 OC 'Pursuit of Happiness' - which Super Lauwersmeer delivered just before the start of summer - we are showcasing how we make customers' dreams come true. The Discovery 47 OC, a ship that incorporates more than 50 years of yacht building experience, made the dreams of the Van der Veen family a reality. Moreover, it exhibits numerous innovations and firsts.

Super Lauwersmeer strongly believes in building its yachts not just for, but also together with, its customers. This is possible because the ship does not leave the shipyard during the construction process. Super Lauwersmeer’s team of professionals carry out all work. The most recent proof of the results is the Discovery 47 OC 'Pursuit of Happiness'. The more than 14-metre-long Discovery series yacht was built entirely to the customer's taste and wishes.

Child-friendly adaptations

One of the wishes was to build a ship for the whole family. Sytze and his wife Loekie like to spend their holidays on the water together with their young children. The carefree sailing pleasure with children onboard also entails extra attention to safety. For example, the ship was fitted with child locks on the doors in the cockpit and extra doors were added to prevent children from walking into the gangways on their own. With a spacious master bedroom in the forepeak and two spacious bedrooms for the children, the young family can enjoy the comfort of home in their floating holiday home.

Water scooter on the extended swimming platform

Once the children are in bed, the Van der Veen couple can enjoy their hobbies. While his wife Loekie is watching her favourite series on Netflix on the salon sofa, Sytze drops the water scooter in the water for a round trip on the lake. To make this possible, Super Lauwersmeer developed an extended swimming platform with space for the water scooter and the davit system. With this system by Hurley Marine, the Yamaha water scooter is easy to take in and out of the water. If the water scooter is not there, the extra-long swimming platform is also a wonderful place to sit, a kind of terrace on the water. If you prefer to paddle in the shade, the sunshade stand incorporated in the hull makes it possible to create shade anywhere in the cockpit or on the swimming platform.

Chalk white and matt-black accents

The Van der Veen family loves both design and gadgets and that resulted in wonderful challenges for the craftsmen in the shipyard. The ship was sprayed in a chalk colour with numerous details in matt black. Inspiration for this was found in the car industry. The eye for detail is visible when looking at the equipment on the radar arch painted in matt black and the striping on the ship’s hull visually connects all the windows. A unique feature is the stainless-steel railing in 'satin black metallic', developed by Super Lauwersmeer.

Personalised interior

The interior is stylish, contemporary and practical. Again, a lot of attention was paid to the fact that there are (small) children on board. This can be seen, for example, in the elimination of various operating elements and the choice of extra scratch- and wear-resistant material but design played an equally important role. The Alcantara-upholstered panels, the LED light lines in the ceiling and the sleek steering position are just some of the personalised features.

Augmented Reality

Part of the innovation is visible in the steering system. Two large Raymarine touchscreens house all the functions for navigation, the chart plotter and the integrated camera system for good visibility in front and behind the ship. A novelty on the Discovery 47 OC is Raymarine's 'Augmented Reality' system in which the information from the AIS, navigation buoys, objects and waypoints are projected onto the camera screen, providing a very realistic picture of the ship’s surroundings.

Whisper-quiet drive

In the engine room, which was finished according to luxury yacht building standards, is a Volvo Penta D3 (150 horsepower). The engine is already incredibly quiet and low-vibration, but thanks to its solid construction and excellent insulation, it cannot be felt or heard at idling speed and is whisper-quiet even at cruising speed. The Vetus joystick can also be added to the list of modern novelties, allowing the bow and stern thruster to be operated with a single joystick. In combination with the Vetus Bow Pro thrusters, proportional manoeuvring is also possible. This makes it possible to moor the ship quietly and with extreme precision.

Showpiece

The Discovery 47 OC 'Pursuit of Happiness' proves once again that Super Lauwersmeer can make dreams come true. The yacht is a beautiful showpiece of more than 50 years of yacht building experience in which design, convenience and realising dreams go hand in hand.
